All applicants must submit GRE scores directly from ETS to the Department of Chemistry. Make sure that you indicate our institution code (5812) and department code (0301) when you take the GRE. The advanced test is not required. The TOEFL exam is required of applicants who have not spent at least one year in an institution where English is the native language of that country. The minimum acceptable TOEFL score is 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), 80 (internet). All applicants whose native language is not English and who are not US citizans or permanent residents will be required to pass an English test upon arrival at the University. Based on this exam, you may be required to take English language courses at your own expense. Spoken English skills are expected to be at a level equivalent to a score of about 22 on the iBT speaking exam. Students who do not pass the English speaking test may not receive teaching assistantships.
