You will be prompted for a new password.  Enter a new password.  The password must be at least 6 characters long with lowercase, uppercase and numerals.  Notice that nothing will be displayed on the screen as you type in your password.

Once you have changed your password you will be at the command prompt bash-2.03$.  Type exit and hit Enter to close your session, or continue on and use pine to check your email.

Step 2: Options for Reading Your Email

Your email can be checked in 3 different ways.  You can log  into the server using the procedure outlined above and use pine to check your email.  You can set up your email client (Thunderbird, Eudora, Outlook or Outlook Express) to read your email.  Lastly, you can have your email forwarded to another account.

Using Pine:

Use the procedure outlined above to log into the chemistry mail server. At the bash-2.03$ prompt type pine and hit ENTER.  You will see the screen below.

Press E to exit or press ENTER to continue reading the greeting.  Once you have left the greeting page you will see the standard pine menu.  Press L or ENTER to see the folder list, then press M or ENTER to see your mailboxes.  Next press I or hit ENTER to see the messages in your inbox.  You will notice at the bottom of the screen there will be examples of commands you can use.

Forwarding your email:

If you wish to have your email forwarded to another account where you can check it, there are a few things to keep in mind. Most free email services give you a very small amount of space for email. If you run out of room for your mail any mail you have being forwarded will not arrive and may not be recoverable. Please make sure you keep plenty of space in your inbox so you do not lose any mail. We recommend only forwarding you email to you gatorlink account

To set up email forwarding stop by the IT Shop and we will configure the forwarding for you.
