Faculty in the Biochemistry Division teach a number of undergraduate courses in biochemistry and organic chemistry.
The Department offers several types of chemistry majors and detailed requirements for each can be found
here. An undergraduate chemistry major
with a strong emphasis on biochemistry has recently become available.
Some courses taught by Biochemistry Division faculty:
CHM 2210 - Organic Chemistry. First semester of the traditional
organic chemistry sequence.
CHM 2211 - Organic Chemistry. Second semester of the traditional
organic chemistry sequence.
CHM 3217 - Bioorganic Chemistry. The first semester of the combined
organic/biochemistry sequence of the ChemTrak chemistry major.
CHM 3218 - Bioorganic Chemistry. The second semester of the
combined organic/biochemistry sequence of the ChemTrak chemistry major. This course fulfills the requirements for a
one-semester biochemistry course and the coverage is comparable to that of CHM 4207 and BCH 4024.
CHM 4207 - Introduction to Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
An introduction to the structures and biochemical functions of proteins, carbohydrates and nucleic acids and to the
principles of metabolism and molecular biology. The coverage is comparable to that of CHM 3218 and BCH 4024.
CHM 4302L - Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Laboratory.
This course provides an introduction to basic techniques of molecular biology and biochemistry research by focusing
on the cloning, expression, purification and characterization of human carbonic anhydrase II.
