Biochemistry in a Chemistry Department
Biology and chemistry are steadily merging, and it is at the interface that the most exciting research occurs. With the
rapid advances in genome technology and other areas of molecular biology, it is clear that biochemical research over the next
20 years will focus increasingly on applying genomic knowledge and the details of how large biomolecules interact. To
participate, students will need a solid background in all branches of chemistry as well as a strong knowledge of biochemistry
and molecular biology. Our proximity and interactions with colleagues working in analytical, inorganic, organic, physical and theoretical chemistry allows for a cohesive and comprehensive approach to biochemistry that makes for a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts.
